Both teams had their chances, but the Mancelona Torch eventually prevailed at Galesburg Field.
Starting pitcher Jorge Oyas pitched well enough to help the Mancelona Torch beat the Galesburg Guzzlers by the score of 5-4. Oyas went 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. His record improves to 5-4.
Had Basava Puri not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Puri hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Torch.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Puri told the Mancelona Herald.
Mancelona is now riding a 3-game win streak.
