Torch Come Up Short at Washington
The Washington Generals did just enough to secure a 4-3 victory over the Mancelona Torch at Washington Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Esteban Martínez, who captured player of the game honors. Milton Mathews earned the save for Washington, his 7th of the year. The Torch, now 10-24, have lost 6 in a row.

Dale Clark, who is tied for 10th in the PA in bases on balls with 17, aided the Washington cause with a run-scoring triple in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the second baseman went 2-4 with a triple.

Martínez expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
