Close Win Moves Guzzlers to 8-11
|
The Galesburg Guzzlers got a strong performance from pitcher Andy Tidwell, who stymied the Washington offense en route to a 2-1 win at Galesburg Field. The winning pitcher was Tidwell, now 1-3. He tossed 7.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 4. Gilberto Chávez closed the game out for Galesburg, earning his 5th save.
Had Telman Gadzhiyev not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Gadzhiyev hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Guzzlers.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Tidwell said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The Generals, at 4-15, have stumbled out of the gate.
