The Blaze faced a stiff challenge from Mancelona pitcher Tomás Mata, but persevered to claim a win at The Ballpark on the Beach. The final score was 3-2. Mata went 7 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Firpo Marberry got credit for the win, improving to 3-0. He allowed 2 runs on 8 hits in 6.1 innings. Unto Leino earned the save for South Beach, his 1st of the year.
In the bottom of the 6th, center fielder Dave Broom gave South Beach the lead when he hit a 2-run double. The Blaze had been trailing 1-0, but the two-out double off Mancelona pitcher Tomás Mata changed that -- and South Beach went on to win.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Broom said.
The Blaze raised their record to 9-5.
