Hotspur U-21 Beat Visiting Chiefs, 5-2
|
The Phoenix Hotspur U-21 beat the Connetquot Chiefs, 5-2, at Hotspur Kiddie Complex. The Hotspur U-21 got a fine performance from third baseman Mike James, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3 for 3 with a triple, a double, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Phoenix starter Umebayashi Naofumi was credited with the win after throwing 107 pitches over 6.2 innings. His record now stands at 7-6. Francisco Medine was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
Tied up with the Chiefs in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Hotspur U-21 got a boost from second baseman Tyler Hannah. With the bases empty, Hannah saw a 1-2 fastball from Teok-kyu Ch'oe and hit a solo home run to break the stalemate and put Phoenix on top, 3-2.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Phoenix manager Howard Martínez.
The 6th-place Hotspur U-21 improved to 35-42.
