Big Day by van Noord Ignites Plainsmen Win
|
The exploits of right fielder Tomas van Noord helped the Nebraska Plainsmen defeat the Niagara Falls Expos, 7-1. van Noord went 3-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Augusto Cardona got the win, improving to 3-2. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 6 hits and 1 run, while striking out 13 and walking 1. Nebraska, at 25-36, occupies 8th place in the Silver A.
Nebraska relied on the hitting of Matsu Yoshida to pick up the win. The center fielder ripped a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put the Plainsmen on top, 1-0. For the game, Yoshida had 1 triple and 3 singles in 5 at-bats.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Plainsmen manager Jack Clayton, "I like our chances."
