Hotspur U-21 Throttle Expos, 5-1
|
Phoenix right-hander Benjie Cacdac made an effective start against the Niagara Falls Expos at Hotspur Kiddie Complex, leading his team to a 5-1 win. Cacdac, the winner, moves to 5-2. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 10 and giving up 1 walk. Phoenix is now 24-21, while Niagara Falls is 17-28.
Tied up with the Expos in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Hotspur U-21 got a boost from shortstop Denny Pickett. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Pickett saw a full count fastball from Tung-chi Ran and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Phoenix on top, 1-0.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Phoenix manager Howard Martínez. "It's usually not just one thing."
