Dragonblood Defeat Plainsmen, 3-0
|
Yellowknife starter Wilson Valenzuela pitched effectively against the Nebraska Plainsmen at The Dragon Den. The right-hander led his team to a 3-0 win. Valenzuela got the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed 6 hits and walked 0 over 8 innings. Valenzuela allowed no earned runs. Picking up the save was Doug Lane, his 9th.
Tied up with the Plainsmen in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Dragonblood got a boost from first baseman Andy Garnet. With a runner on 2nd, Garnet saw a 2-0 fastball from Mark Parker and hit a run-scoring double to break the stalemate and put Yellowknife on top, 1-0.
In postgame comments to the Yellowknife Herald, Valenzuela said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Dragonblood now have a mark of 17-10.
