Screaming Eagles Defeat Continentals, 8-6
|
Mercer Island played host to Chesapeake at the friendly confines of Mercer Island Grounds.
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles defeated the Chesapeake Continentals, 8-6. Earning player of the game honors was shortstop Barrett Drury, who slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The first-place Screaming Eagles have a one-game lead in their division.
Bart Goodine had a big run-scoring single for the Screaming Eagles in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Mercer Island trailing 5-3 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from António Martínez and stroked the single to left. It was his 51st hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Screaming Eagles ahead, 5-4.
"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Goodine, "but we got it done."
