Evergreens Edge Past Rainbow Mermaids, 4-3
|
The Portland Evergreens beat the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 4-3, at Evergreen Park. Portland catcher Carlos Cardona earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He went 1-2 with a home run. Portland reliever Ming-jiang Wu picked up the win to move to 4-1. Juan Valdéz suffered the loss. Portland goes to 60-40. The win puts them 3 games up in their division.
Cardona had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the 11th. On a full count fastball from Juan Valdéz, he banged a solo home run to right-center, giving the Evergreens a 4-3 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Cardona.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Cardona said.
