Miners Raise Rally Flag, Beat Springfield, 6-5
|
Springfield got a terrific performance from catcher Nestor Tantoco, but it wasn't enough to beat the Marquette Miners. Marquette won the Springfield Stadium contest, 6-5. Tantoco was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2 for 4 with a double. He drove in 4 runs. Marquette occupies first place in the Premier AA at 49-32.
Eli Cline had a clutch at-bat with one out in the top of the eighth for the Miners. Coming up with runners on 1st and 3rd and Marquette trailing 5-4, he hit a 2-run double.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Cline said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
