Gold Sox Slip Past Portland, 4-3
|
Chicago beat Portland on the strength of starter Tony Alfonso's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 4-3 win. Chicago reliever Toshiki Yokoyama got the win, raising his record to 2-0. Keith Rojas was tagged with the loss. The Gold Sox raised their record to 7-3.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Chicago first baseman Lupo Cotto, facing Keith Rojas, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Gold Sox the 4-3 win.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Portland manager Imran Baig. "But we decided not to take it."
