Rainbow Mermaids Topple Gold Sox with Late Rally
|
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids picked up a win at Gold Sox Field, knocking off the Chicago Gold Sox, 6-3. Starting pitcher Eric Matson, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. The winner was Northern Virginia reliever Keith Johnson, now 4-1. The loser was Toshiki Yokoyama. The 9th-place Rainbow Mermaids improved to 39-59.
Eustacio Tafalla, who is tied for 7th in the PL in hits with 117, helped out the Northern Virginia cause in the top of the ninth inning with a 2-run single. For the game, the third baseman went 2-5 with a double. He drove in 2 runs.
"I like to lead by example," said Matson. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win."
