Mercer Island starter Firpo Marberry had a strong outing against the Tacoma Fur Traders at Ballpark of Tacoma. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 4-1 win. Marberry, now 2-0, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. Esteban Miroz earned the save for Mercer Island, his 5th of the year.
Mercer Island left fielder Alfredo García helped the Screaming Eagles to the win. In the top of the first inning, the 28-year old right fielder stroked a 2-run single. For the game, García was 1 for 4, while adding 2 RBI.
"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Marberry. "Successful pitchers do it."
Today's win puts Mercer Island at 38-25, while Tacoma falls to 30-33.
