Shaw Delivers Clutch At-Bat for Marquette in Walk-Off Win
|
Mercer Island got a terrific performance from pitcher Dan Taylor, but it wasn't enough to beat the Marquette Miners. Marquette won the Marquette Stadium contest, 2-1. Taylor was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball. Shawn Stevenson got credit for the win, improving to 3-2. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Marquette goes to 35-19. The win puts them 3 games up in their division.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Marquette second baseman Sameen Shaw, facing Esteban Miroz, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Miners the 2-1 win.
"To not win that game stings a little bit," said Mercer Island manager Omer van Osch.
