Shooters Get One-Run Win at Mercer Island
|
Mercer Island got a terrific game from second baseman Kimi Okubo. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Springfield, 2-1. Okubo was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. Today's win puts Springfield at 12-17, while Mercer Island falls to 15-14.
The game hit a turning point in the top of the fifth inning, when the Shooters were trailing 1-0. Kensaku Hatayama delivered a two-out 2-run home run for Springfield, catapulting his team into the lead.
Hatayama attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
