Loons Get One-Run Win at Mercer Island
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles got a sterling performance from pitcher Darren Minich, but the Loons still prevailed, 6-5. Minich was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings allowing 3 runs. Damien Morin picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 2 earned runs on 8 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 2. On the season, he is now 1-0. A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the sixth inning when the Loons sent teenager Kevin de Bruyne to the plate against Screaming Eagles hurler Darren Minich. With runners on 1st and 2nd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a double off a first pitch curveball to score 2.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," de Bruyne told the Minnesota Today.
