Miners Sneak Past Loons, 4-3
|
The Minnesota Loons got a sterling performance from pitcher Greguorio Espora, but the Miners still prevailed, 4-3. Espora was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. Joaquin Farias got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. Shawn Stevenson picked up the save for Marquette, his 1st of the year.
Had Theron Montecalvo not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Montecalvo hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Miners.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Montecalvo said.
With the win, Marquette improves its record to 1-1.
