Rainbow Mermaids Top Evergreens, 7-3
|
Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Zahid Kashani, the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids defeated the Portland Evergreens, 7-3. Kashani was 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Rainbow Mermaids. Mimosa Joseph got the win, improving to 2-0. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 4 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 4. Christian Mustard got credit for the save for Northern Virginia. It was his 1st of the year.
The Rainbow Mermaids got a big at-bat from designated hitter Scott Kerin. For the game, Kerin went 1 for 4. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 10th hit of the season gave Northern Virginia a 5-3 lead.
"Anything I can do to help the team win," said Kerin.
The win takes Northern Virginia to 4-5.
