|
The Jersey City Tritons and Baltimore Black Sox provided some drama at Jersey City Grounds.
The Baltimore Black Sox topped the Jersey City Tritons by the score of 4-3, with the largest share of the credit going to third baseman Fernando Martínez. Martínez went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 for the Black Sox. Jeff Merritt got the win, improving to 1-1. He pitched 8.1 innings, giving up 8 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 3. Jen-ta Men picked up the save for Baltimore, his 1st of the year.
The game hit a turning point in the top of the fifth inning, when the Black Sox were trailing 2-1. Roberto Vázquez delivered a two-out 2-run double for Baltimore, catapulting his team into the lead.
"I really like what we did out there today," Martínez said after the game.
Baltimore is now 9-13.
