Starting pitcher José Vélez pitched well enough to help the Yakima Hops beat the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks by the score of 5-3. Yakima reliever Jorge Pliego was credited with the win, to go to 4-4. Kyle Overhill took the loss for Ft. Polk South. Pieter Spitsbaard was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 16 of 20 save opportunities.
Héctor Velázquez aided the Yakima cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth. For the game, the left fielder went 1-4 with a walk.
"It's a mindset," said Vélez. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."
Yakima is now 46-46, while Ft. Polk South is 59-33.
