Deuces Cut Down Misfits, 5-2
|
Despite a fine performance by catcher Austin Case, the Salem Misfits suffered a 5-2 loss to the Virginia Beach Deuces. Case was 2-2 with a triple and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI. Kenneth Ferrell earned the win for Virginia Beach. He lasted 5.1 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 1-0. Virginia Beach now owns a record of 46-37.
Iikka Karpinen was 1-4 with a double for Virginia Beach. The 27-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the second. With one out and a runner on 1st, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring double off Stefan Famintsyn. It was his 9th double of the season.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Virginia Beach manager John Anderson. "It's usually not just one thing."
