The Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks picked up a win at Hops Park, knocking off the Yakima Hops, 4-2. Starting pitcher Daryl Keirl played a key role in the triumph. Keirl, now 5-1, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 4, walking 0, and allowing 2 earned runs. Gunnar Hoglund earned the save for Ft. Polk South, his 7th of the year.
Tied up with the Hops in the top of the fourth inning, the Thunder Hawks got a boost from catcher Marc Ben. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Ben saw a 1-1 fastball from Elroy Quaid and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Ft. Polk South on top, 1-0.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Keirl told the Ft. Polk South Observer.
The Thunder Hawks, now 38-24, have won 4 in a row.
