Deuces Need Extras to Top Nationals
|
The Virginia Beach Deuces did just enough to secure a 5-4 victory over the Ottawa Nationals at Virginia Beach Grounds. Nobody did more than pitcher John Wallbank, who captured player of the game honors. Josh Terry, credited with the win, is now 2-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The losing streak for Ottawa has now reached 4 games.
Late in the game, third baseman Paul Byrd had a big at-bat for Virginia Beach. In the bottom of the 14th, he hit a run-scoring single off Walt Wilson. The play gave the Deuces a 5-4 lead.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Virginia Beach manager John Anderson.
