Rails Get Road Win, 7-2
|
Richland pitcher Hirohisa Niiya did his part in helping his team beat the Asheville Highlanders, 7-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Niiya went 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 1. His record improves to 1-1. The Highlanders, now 3-5, have been pitiful so far.
The Rails got a big at-bat from shortstop Júlio Madrid. For the game, Madrid was 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the fourth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Richland a 2-0 lead.
Niiya told a Richland Daily reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
