Stingers Clip Rainbow Mermaids in Tight Contest
|
The Toledo Stingers had to overcome a big game from Northern Virginia third baseman Eustacio Tafalla to leave Pacesetter Park with a 7-6 victory. Tafalla went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5. Toledo reliever Asher Spivey picked up the win to move to 2-3. Mat Tengku suffered the loss. Northern Virginia's current losing streak is now 4 games.
Tamasaburo Kato was the walk-off hero for Toledo. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Stingers third baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
Stingers manager Francis Bova wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
