Lake Monsters Score Late, Top Halberds, 2-1
|
It was a good time at Monster Field, where fans came to watch the Alloway Halberds and Vermont Lake Monsters get after it.
Vermont Lake Monsters starter Marnix van Rijn pitched a strong game against the Alloway Halberds at Monster Field, leading the Lake Monsters to a 2-1 win. Vermont reliever Jefferson Suhendro picked up the win to move to 1-0. Cheung Lai suffered the loss.
Jason Slaybaugh was the walk-off hero for Vermont. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Lake Monsters first baseman hit a dramatic solo home run to send the teams home.
"I was a little disappointed," said Alloway manager Wes Murray. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
The last-place Halberds have lost 5 straight games.
