Nieves Delivers Walk-Off Win for Belugas
|
Vermont got a terrific performance from pitcher Naozane Kobayashi, but it wasn't enough to beat the Brinkley Belugas. Brinkley won the Belugas Ballpark contest, 5-3. Kobayashi was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball. The Belugas now have a mark of 30-35.
Brinkley won the game in the bottom of the 11th inning. With no outs and Mike Brandner on the mound for Vermont, designated hitter Mario Nieves hit a dramatic 2-run home run, bringing Belugas fans to their feet.
In postgame comments, Nieves said he was glad to contribute to an exciting win.
