Toledo right fielder Alfredo Martínez had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Martínez went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, even as Boston beat the Stingers, 5-4. Martínez was named the player of the game despite the loss. Dave Hulton, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3.1 innings. Picking up the save was Carlos Ramos, his 1st.
Kantaro Taniguchi came through for Boston in the top of the fourth. With no one out, Taniguchi victimized Maxime Janssens with a 2-run home run. It was his 8th home run of the season and put Boston on top, 5-3.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Taniguchi.
Boston is now 33-21, 2 games up in the Premier League.
