Brinkley beat Phoenix at Belugas Ballpark, eking out a 5-4 win. The win was due in large part to shortstop Luis Yander La O, who earned player of the game honors. The defending champion Belugas have struggled a bit to find their groove this season, but improve to 7-8 with the win.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Wu-shiun Wang came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Facing Phoenix pitcher Dennis Dunn, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Brinkley on top, 5-4.
In postgame comments to the Brinkley Gazette, Wang said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
