Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids starter Chris Sommer pitched effectively against the Vancouver Grey Wolves at Atlantica. The left-hander spearheaded his team's 1-0 win. Northern Virginia, at 23-28, sits in 9th place in the Premier League.
The Rainbow Mermaids got a big at-bat from second baseman Colt Cabana. For the game, Cabana went 1 for 3 with a walk. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 26th hit of the season gave Northern Virginia a 1-0 lead.
"I found a nice groove out there," said Sommer.
