Late Rally by Lake Monsters Secures Win
|
Crowds lined up early in front of Monster Field, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2034 USSL Triple A season. On the mound was Eugenio Piñeiro for the visiting Royse City Targaryens and Ramón Martínez for the hometown Vermont Lake Monsters. In a spirited contest, the Lake Monsters pulled out the win, defeating the Targaryens by the score of 5-4. Earning player of the game honors was Ricardo Téllez. Jefferson Suhendro closed the game out for Vermont, earning his 1st save.
The Lake Monsters got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Manuel Núñez. For the game, Núñez was 1-1 with a double. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 1st double of the season gave Vermont a 5-4 lead.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Núñez told the Vermont Herald.
