Phoenix Hotspur overcame a superlative game from Valentin Calhamar to beat Lannister United, 3-2. The Lannister United pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball. Phoenix Hotspur reliever Wei-qian Chieu was the winner. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Hercules Mata'afa. The 8th-place Youth have won 4 in a row.
The Youth were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when left fielder Phil Mazzeo turned a 2-2 cutter from Hercules Mata'afa into a 2-run double. The walk-off double sent a roar through the crowd and gave Phoenix Hotspur a thrilling 3-2 win.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Phoenix Hotspur skipper Junior Benítez.
