Blue Sox Shut Out Youth
|
Irving starter Craig Fitzgerald put a stranglehold on the Phoenix Hotspur offense. The left-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Blue Sox to a 4-0 win. In 8.1 innings, Fitzgerald surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. He allowed no runs. Irving has a 3-game win streak, while Phoenix Hotspur has lost 3 in a row.
Rafael Porfrio's at-bat in the top of the third was significant for the Blue Sox. Coming to the plate with the bases loaded and Irving leading 2-0, the designated hitter drew a walk, driving in 1 run.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Irving skipper Bill Clark. "I can't complain."
