In a low-scoring tilt between the Irving Blue Sox and the San Bernardino Grasshoppers, Rich McLean was the difference-maker. The Irving right-hander earned player of the game honors in the 3-2 win. Cheung Lai nailed down his 4th save. After today's action, Irving sits at 15-8, while San Bernardino falls to 15-8.
It could have been a different outcome for Irving, had it not been for Justin Smelter, the 28-year old third baseman . Smelter contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to put Irving up, 3-2.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said San Bernardino skipper Manny Cuellar, "and it cost us."
