Hialeah Dodos starter Sam Groves turned in a top-notch performance against the Tortolita Drummers at Dodos Ballpark. The result was a win for the Dodos, 4-2. Groves got the win, improving to 2-8. He allowed 7 hits and walked 1 over 8 innings. Groves allowed 1 earned run. Olegário Pa got the save, his 8th in 13 chances.
The Dodos got a big at-bat from designated hitter Owen Cannon. For the game, Cannon went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the second, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Hialeah a 2-1 lead.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Groves told the Hialeah Herald.
Even with the win, the Dodos have a dismal 31-61 record.
