|
Port Royal withstood an impressive performance by Sioux Falls catcher Gary Chalmers to defeat the Red Pandas, 4-3, at Ballpark of Port Royal. Chalmers went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Port Royal reliever Gunner Hines was credited with the win, to go to 2-0. Brian Morris took the loss for Sioux Falls. Masaharu Sakata closed the door for Port Royal, picking up his 4th save of the year.
José Vázquez had a clutch at-bat with no one out in the bottom of the seventh for the Disaster. Coming up with the bases loaded and Port Royal trailing 3-2, he hit a 2-run single.
Vázquez called the win "a collective effort."
Port Royal is now 28-26.
