Patriots Get Past Portland for 3-2 Win
|
The Portland Evergreens got a superb performance from pitcher Giovanni Mireles. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Boston. The Patriots won the game, 3-2. In spite of the loss, Mireles was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings allowing 2 runs. Armando Garay picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-2. César Albó was tagged with the loss. Shuntavyious Primes-Willes finished to wrap up his 2nd save.
Jorge Velázquez, who is rated as the 87th best prospect by BNN, contributed to the Boston win with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the designated hitter had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
Portland manager Imran Baig said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
Boston is now 19-11.
