Les Bleus Sneak Past Pandas, 1-0
|
The Montana Pandas got a superb performance from pitcher Ron Stone, but the Quebec City Les Bleus still won the game, 1-0. Stone was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 5 innings of shutout ball. The win was credited to Carlos Garza in relief. His record improves to 4-2. Tom Warrawong took the loss. The win boosts the Les Bleus to 9-16. The loss puts the Pandas at 13-12.
Had Jeff Simpson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Simpson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Les Bleus.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Simpson told reporters after the game.
