The Kingston Township Knights did just enough to secure a 3-2 victory over the Charleston Battery at Cloverdale Legion Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Jesús Acosta, who captured player of the game honors. Acosta got the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed 7 hits and walked 0 over 8.1 innings. Acosta allowed 2 earned runs. John Riggleman picked up the save, his 5th.
Had Alfredo Cardenas not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 1st, Cardenas hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Knights.
"Being able to contribute to a win is always a great feeling," Cardenas told the Kingston Township Times.
The Battery fall to 4-8 and continue to sputter in the early going.
