Athletic Club KC Snaps Atkinson's Streak at 24 Wednesday, July 13th, 2033 For 24 straight games, Charles Atkinson tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy. Well, the 19-year-old Capital Hill Interns center fielder can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the Athletic Club KC U-21. The U-21 held him hitless in 5 at-bats at Ballpark of Elkhorn City today and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 24. There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Interns took the win by the score of 5-4. "I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now." Atkinson is hitting .296 this year with 2 home runs and 33 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .330, 12 walks and scored 28 times. |
