San Diego Snaps Mueller's Streak at 21
Sunday, September 4th, 2033
For 21 straight games, Joe Mueller tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy.
Well, the 19-year-old Ladue Rams right fielder can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the San Diego Clippers. The Clippers held him hitless in 4 at-bats at Mean Green Ballpark today and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 21.
There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Rams took the win by the score of 5-1.
"I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now."
This year Mueller has collected a .272 batting average to date with 100 hits in 368 at-bats, 38 RBIs, 4 home runs and scored 50 times. He has played in 94 games.
