Key West Snaps Espantoso's Streak at 22
Saturday, September 3rd, 2033
For 22 straight games, Germán Espantoso tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy.

Well, the 23-year-old Salt Lake City Buzz left fielder can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the Key West Coral Reefers. The Coral Reefers held him hitless in 5 at-bats at Milton Corner Tavern today and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 22.

There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Buzz took the win by the score of 5-4.

"I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now."

Espantoso is hitting .293 so far this season with 25 RBIs and 36 runs scored. He has 66 hits including 1 home run, 11 walks and .335 OBP.
