Billings Wins at Home to Take 2-1 Lead in R1
|
The Billings Polar Bears moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the visiting Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks at The Igloo by a score of 7-3. Polar Bears first baseman José Ortíz was named player of the game after he went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The win gives the Polar Bears a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 3L AA Championship.
Ortíz had an important at-bat with runners on 1st and 2nd in the bottom of the second, when he hit a 2-run double. The Polar Bears went on to win.
After the game, Ortíz refused to speak to a reporter for the Billings Herald. "You've accused me of throwing teammates under the bus," he said. "So, excuse me if I decline to answer your questions."
Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow at The Igloo. The scheduled starters for the game are Kyle Overhill for Ft. Polk South and Wilson Longoria for Billings.
