When the games really matter, the Billings Polar Bears put on their best show, beating the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks by a final score of 8-0 today. Richello Mabait earned player of the game honors, as he was 3-3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Billings now leads Ft. Polk South 1-0 in the best-of-5 affair.
It could have been a different outcome for Billings, had it not been for Luis Pérez, the 24-year old shortstop . Pérez contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the second inning to put Billings up, 2-0.
Mabait said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow.
