SL AAA Championship Game 1 Victory for Clough\n and Salt Lake City
|
Arthur Clough and the Salt Lake City Buzz opened the SL AAA Championship in brilliant fashion today, shutting out the visiting Tremont Doubledays at Spirits Stadium 7-0 and securing an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Clough, the Buzz left-hander, was named player of the game as he came in in relief and pitched to 16 batters .
Salt Lake City center fielder Mike Gillespie helped the Buzz go up, 4-0, in the bottom of the third inning. With the game tied, Gillespie hit a grand slam home run off Tremont pitcher Daniel Lavalley.
"I thought we played a nice game," Gillespie told the Salt Lake City Daily. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Spirits Stadium in Salt Lake City. The scheduled starters for the game are Prince Nakamura for Tremont and Markus Widner for Salt Lake City.
