Gwinnett County Breaks Through for First Win in PL A Championship; Now Trails 2-1
|
Already down in the PL A Championship, the Gwinnett County Black Cats put on their best show, beating the Valley Blue Sox by a final score of 3-2 today. Jesús Guillén earned player of the game honors, as he was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times. Gwinnett County now trails Valley 2-1 in the best-of-5 affair.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Curt Taylor came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Facing Valley pitcher Hans Rager, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring double. It was a game-changer, putting Gwinnett County on top, 3-2.
"I'm glad this one's going in the books as a 'W'," Taylor said.
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow. Slated to start are Tom Hegedus for Valley and Melvin Turner for Gwinnett County.
