Fort Knox Breaks Through for First Win in PL R Championchip; Now Trails 2-1
|
The Fort Knox Centennial have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Ogallala Octopi, winning 5-2 at Ballpark of Baxter today. Centennial right-hander Elton Coalan was named player of the game after he threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. The win cuts the deficit facing the Centennial to 2-1 in the best-of-5 PL R Championchip.
Tied up with the Octopi in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Centennial got a boost from designated hitter Carel van Putten. With runners on 1st and 2nd, van Putten saw a 1-0 fastball from Pepe Pereira and hit a run-scoring double to break the stalemate and put Fort Knox on top, 2-1.
van Putten called the triumph "a good team win."
Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow in Ft. Knox. Slated to start are Moriz Gaidamakin for the Ogallala Octopi and Arturo Mesa for the the Fort Knox Centennial.
