Home Field Advantage: Martínez, Ogallala Open PL R Championchip with Win
|
The Ogallala Octopi started the PL R Championchip in style today, downing the visiting Fort Knox Centennial at Nebraska Aquarium by a score of 9-3 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Octopi designated hitter Carlos Martínez was named player of the game after he was 4-5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2.
Tied up with the Centennial in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Octopi got a boost from first baseman Lauren Hilfiker. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Hilfiker saw a 1-1 curveball from Ryan Fry and hit a 2-run double to break the stalemate and put Ogallala on top, 5-3.
"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Ogallala skipper Bernie Drake.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Alberto López for Fort Knox and Miguel Ávila for Ogallala.
