Hotspur Academy Raise Rally Flag, Beat San Diego, 1-0
|
The Phoenix Hotspur Academy picked up a win at Ballpark of Fresno, knocking off the San Diego Clippers, 1-0. Starting pitcher Francisco Medine, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Phoenix reliever Manny Guzmán picked up the win, upping his record to 6-6. Mark Corbett shouldered the loss. Phoenix, at 46-37, occupies third place in the Premier R.
Phoenix won the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. With one out and Mark Corbett on the mound for San Diego, first baseman Pancho Coloma hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Hotspur Academy fans to their feet.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Phoenix manager Mike Evans said.
